Assistant Operations Manager (AOM)

Reporting to the District Manager, the Assistant Operations Manager (AOM) will be responsible for the daily management and coordination of all drivers and dispatchers, managing daily route schedules/staffing, and ensuring compliance with labour, safety, environmental and corporate policies and regulations. The Assistant Operations Manager has complete responsibility as the Leader of his/her assigned territory, managing recruiting, and will have a focus on maintaining health & safety.
 
What will you do?
  • Manage daily operational processes and support dispatchers and drivers;
  • Ensure service excellence, people management, and labour management;
  • Complete Vehicle and facility audits as required;
  • Oversee Front End, roll off and totes collections;
  • Manage progressive discipline and absenteeism program;
  • Manage drivers and dispatchers training on operating procedures and health & safety on the job;
  • Ensure end of day procedures are followed as laid out by Emterra Environmental;
  • Manage the onboarding of new hires, working with HR and employment agencies;
  • Manage and complete any type of operational reporting required on a daily basis; profitability tracking.
  • Liaise with sales and account management on customer service and retention.
 
 
What will you bring?
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a collecting operation in the waste industry;
  • Minimum 5 years of prior supervisory experience;
  • Valid DZ or AZ license with air brake endorsement;
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in the use of MS Office; Excel is an asset;
  • Excellent time management, organizational, multi-tasking, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Previous experience utilizing GPS, route management, fuel, and fleet/maintenance management is an asset;
  • Knowledge of provincial labour, transportation, and environmental regulations.
