Please join our team as an Operations Specialist you will focus on the daily operations, including safety, administration, monitoring of the work, inspections and customer relations.  Our Operations Specialist will be organized, computer savvy, have strengths in communicating effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including managers, supervisors and customers.  An ability to excel in a fast paced environment with an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial for this position!
 
What will you do?
  • Provide main dispatch with drivers and supervisors using 2 way radios;
  • Use Global Positioning System (GPS) to track vehicles, to dispatch assignment to drivers, and to ensure 100% routes are completed daily as required by the Peel Region Contract;
  • Coordinate with Operations team on completion and submission of reports, progressive discipline, and investigations in a timely manner;
  • Set up and maintain driver and loader files for direct and agency hires including setting up time zone hand input;
  • Maintain driver and loader time off requests and calendar;
  • Administrative hub for all operations reporting relating to investigations, WSIB, damage quotes, Region complaints, etc.; 
  • Maintaining accurate records for Operations, Health and Safety, and other departments as necessary;
  • Handling customer inquiries courteously and professionally;
  • Support daily data entry including scale slips, route data, fuel logs and other data as required;
  • General office duties including mailing invoices, statements, filing and other duties as required.
  • Maintain the daily time zone for drivers on absences, punch in/out, vacations and WSIB;
  • Dispatch duties – missed streets, bulk items, Region of Peel daily emails and other duties assigned;
  • Driver trainer – driver testing new hires,  annual training and remedial training;
  • IT support on hardware relating to the operations of Emterra – GPS, RTA and other items hardware;
  • Route Coordinator – support operations team with mapping, routing, GPS and internal documents;
 
What will you bring?
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience working in a related office/administrative role
  • Relevant post-secondary degree
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of the waste management or transportation industry an asset
  • Dispatch experience considered an asset
  • Call centre/customer service experience an asset
  • Ability to type 50 wpm, while obtaining information over the phone – efficient in note taking
  • Experience with data entry and the generation of reports
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines
  • Experience providing customer service and the ability to act with diplomacy and professionalism
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft applications
  • Grade 12 or GED equivalency;  job related post-secondary education considered an asset
  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as necessary
