Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Assistant Operations Manager will be responsible for the daily management and coordination of all Route Supervisors, managing daily route schedules/staffing, and ensuring compliance with labour, safety, environmental and corporate policies and regulations.The Assistant Operations Manager has complete responsibility as the Leader of his/her assigned territory, managing recruiting, and will have a focus on maintaining health & safety.
 
What will you do?
  • Manage daily operational processes and support Route Supervisors;
  • Ensure service excellence, people management, and labour management;
  • Complete daily facility audits;
  • Oversee bag based and little collections;
  • Manage progressive discipline and absenteeism program;
  • Manage driver training on operating procedures and health & safety on the job;
  • Ensure end of day procedures are followed as laid out by Operations Manager;
  • Manage the onboarding of new hires, working with HR and employment agencies;
  • Manage and complete any type of operational reporting required on a daily basis;
  • Ensure end of day procedures for when employees are arriving back at end of shift.
 
What will you bring?
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a collecting operation in the waste industry;
  • Minimum 5 years’ of prior supervisory experience;
  • Valid DZ or AZ license with air brake endorsement;
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in the use of MS Office; Excel is an asset;
  • Excellent time management, organizational, multi-tasking, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Previous experience utilizing RFID GPS, GIS, route management, fuel, and fleet/maintenance management is an asset;
  • Knowledge of provincial labour, transportation, and environmental regulations.
